About this film
LibriVox recording of Waste: A Tragedy in Four Acts (1906) by Harley Granville-Barker. Read in English by LibriVox Volunteers. Set in Edwardian England, Waste is a story of politics, religion and adulterous scandal. First published in 1906-7, the play was refused by the Lord Chamberlain and could therefore only be staged privately. Granville-Barker revised his play many times until it was publicly staged in 1936. The playwright included a note to H. M. Harwood in his revised edition (first published April, 1927) stating, in part: “I doubt if one scrap of the old dialogue survives; the story and the characters are here, that is all.” This Librivox recording uses the original (1906-7) script. - Summary by Brian Fullen For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.
