About this film
Mel Brooks shot to comedy filmmaking stardom with his script and direction of this 1968 classic starring Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder as a struggling producer and an accountant who find themselves in the hands of what, for them, seems a provable flop: a musical glorifying Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. The film became an underground sensation, won Brooks the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, and later itself became a Broadway musical that got its own film adaptation.
