A Night at the Movies: 1958-Auntie Mame VHS (1984) (USA) (Reprint)
About this film
Printed on October 7, 1989. A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES is an inventive series of two-tape sets from Warner Home Video which recreated vintage filmgoing experiences, showcasing not only the film, but also a newsreel, a Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoon (yes, this series was the first from the company to feature one of those) and previews for films Warner Bros. had put into theatres, all from the year highlighted in each installment. This episode centers on the year 1958 and revolves around this delightful adaption of a Broadway play based on Patrick Dennis' novel about an orphan going to live with his free-spirited aunt (Rosalind Russell) and the conflict that ensues when the executor of his father's estate objects to her lifestyle. The play was remade into a musical, MAME, which was adapted into a 1974 film, which featured Lucille Ball in her final film role.
