About this film
They call him Mr. Tibbs! The 1967 Academy Award for Best Picture went to this southern-fried crime drama starring Sidney Poitier as a black cop from Philadelphia who becomes rapidly involved in a murder investigation in a small Mississippi town and in the process must overcome tensions with a bigoted sheriff (Rod Steiger, in an Oscar-winning role for him). Sam: Warren Oates. Mrs. Colbert: Lee Grant. Followed by two sequels and a TV series. COMMENT: There's a bit of an error with the DVD transfer rip; the tape is stopped around 10:08 and starts up again at 10:10. I apologize for the interruption.
