The Great Caruso VHS (1993) (USA) (MGM Musicals)
About this film
Printed on December 19, 1994. The highest-grossing film of 1951 stars Mario Lanza (1921-59), then a rising star of both the opera and popular music fields, as the great operatic tenor Enrico Caruso (1873-1921), and provides a (largely fictionalized) account of his life and romance with socialite Dorothy P. Benjamin (Ann Blyth). Enrico Caruso, Jr. says that "vocally and musically, THE GREAT CARUSO [ . . . ] has helped many young people discover opera, and even become singers themselves."
