Explorin Nevada Virginia City: Outer Limits
About this film
A DVD from the Nevada State Archives, which was recorded on VHS to begin with. It is directed and hosted by Gwendolyn Clancy, and produced by the now-defunct Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs. Exploring Nevada - Virginia City: Outer Limits Virginia City, at the heart of one of the nation's most important landmark districts, is a well-known tourist destination, but too often, visitors fail to stray far from the main street. In this view of the nineteenth-century capital of mining, Ron James, Nevada Historic Preservation Officer, takes us to the "outer limits," places not seen by many tourists. From the towering Fourth Ward School to the windswept cemetery, some the the best historic places are removed from the center of town. See where children once slid down stair banisters and where Daughters of Charity walked the halls of St. Mary's Hospital as the made their rounds. Visit the site of the Yellow Jacket fire, Nevada's worst mining disaster. Go inside the Chillat Mine and consider the famous Comstock Mining District from a perspective that may have eluded you.
