About this film
LibriVox volunteers bring you 16 recordings of Uphill by Christina Rossetti. This was the Weekly Poetry project for January 22, 2017. Read in English by Algy Pug; Newgatenovelist; Bruce Kachuk; Beth Thomas; David Lawrence; Ezwa; Greg Giordano; Ian King; J A Carter; Lee Ann Howlett; Maria Kasper; Matthew Datcher; Petula; Peter Yearsley; Scotty Smith and Tomas Peter. Rossetti began writing down and dating her poems from 1842, mostly imitating her favoured poets. From 1847 she began experimenting with verse forms such as sonnets, hymns and ballads; drawing narratives from the Bible, folk tales and the lives of the saints. Her early pieces often feature meditations on death and loss, in the Romantic tradition.
