About this film
LibriVox recording of Three Years at Glenwood by Margaret Winslow. Read in English by John Biebel. Three Years at Glenwood is a sequel to the novel Katie Robertson, in which the titular character follows her ambition to be a school teacher, and commences her education in a large city far from her home. Katie, who had overcome many challenges as part of her work in the Squantown paper mills, now faces new problems and accomplishments, both academic and social, amongst the city schoolgirls and teachers. It continues themes of how young evangelical christians grow and develop in secular settings, and raises important questions of the late nineteenth century such as economic class distinctions, the position of women in society, and the changing attitudes toward the sabbath and temperance. We follow Katie as she navigates these complex problems as she grows and furthers her education toward a goal of economic independence. - Summary by John Biebel For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.
