About this film

The Burmese Harp is a 1956 Japanese drama film directed by Kon Ichikawa. Based on a children's novel of the same name written by Michio Takeyama. It follows Private Mizushima, a soldier in the Burma Campaign during World War II, who becomes a harp player for his unit. After the war ends, he struggles with the decision to return home or stay behind to bury the dead, ultimately choosing to promote peace as a monk while his comrades search for him, believing he may still be alive.
