The Stranger is a 1946 American thriller film noir directed and co-written by Orson Welles, starring himself along with Edward G. Robinson and Loretta Young. The story follows war crimes investigator Mr. Wilson as he tracks down Nazi fugitive Franz Kindler, who has assumed a new identity as a teacher in a small Connecticut town. As Wilson uncovers Kindler's true identity, he faces a moral dilemma involving Kindler's fiancée, who is unaware of her husband's dark past.
