"The Scarlet and the Black" is a historical drama film directed by Jerry London, based on the true story of a Catholic priest during World War II. The film centers on Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty , played by Gregory Peck , who works in the Vatican. He becomes a key figure in helping Jews and Allied prisoners escape from the Nazis occupying Rome. Based on The Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican by J.P. Gallagher.
