About this film

The Ox-Bow Incident is a Western film that examines themes of justice, morality, and mob mentality. Set in 1885 Nevada, the story begins with two cowboys, Gil Carter (played by Henry Fonda ) and Art Croft (played by Harry Morgan ), who return to town to find that a local rancher has been murdered, and a cattle rustler is suspected. As the news spreads, a group of townsmen quickly forms a mob to seek justice. The mob decides to hang the accused men— Toddy (played by Dana Andrews ) and Barry (played by Larry Gates )who are found near the scene. Gil and Art, initially skeptical, realize that the lynching is moving forward despite a lack of solid evidence.As tensions rise, Gil tries to convince the mob to wait for a fair trial, arguing the importance of due process and the possibility of the men's innocence. However, the mob is fueled by anger and fear, leading to a chilling confrontation about what justice truly means.The film culminates in an intense moral conflict.
