About this film

The Fall of the Roman Empire is a 1964 American epic historical drama film directed by Anthony Mann and produced by Samuel Bronston, with a screenplay by Ben Barzman, Basilio Franchina and Philip Yordan. The story follows the story of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, who wishes to pass his throne to his capable adopted son, Livius, instead of his corrupt biological son, Commodus. After Aurelius is poisoned, Commodus ascends to power, leading to a series of conflicts and political turmoil that highlight the empire's decline due to internal corruption and ambition.
