About this film

Chia Amisola premiered a new desktop performance that summons obselete technologies invoking the early internet, featuring popups and feedback loops in a symphony of tabs, windows and browser histories. Considering hypertext as a mode of performance as much as medium, this ‘internet ambient’ turns the surveilled, online and violent landscape into a symphonic cybernetic ecology. Unfolding self-preservation as a practice of communal preservation, repetition as ritual and the website as a site, the audience was invited to a desktop performance followed by a Q&A. Screen Walks is a series of live-streamed artist/researcher-led explorations of online spaces and artistic strategies designed to illuminate a thriving – often overlooked – digital cultural scene. A new online collaboration between The Photographers’ Gallery , UK and Fotomuseum Winterthur , Switzerland.
