Screen Walk with Gala Hernandez Lopez
About this film
Artist, filmmaker and researcher Gala Hernández López discussed AI companions and automated care work through the examples of the chatbot Replika and Blush, a dating app developed by the same parent company. Jumping from the archives of the early chatbot Eliza and the related 'Eliza effect' to Roland Barthes' A Lover's Discourse and Tiqqun's Theory of the Young Girl , the walk critically explored gendered historical and contemporary visual representations of AI addressing fundamental questions about the future of our intimate relationship with machines. Screen Walks is a series of live-streamed artist/researcher-led explorations of online spaces and artistic strategies designed to illuminate a thriving – often overlooked – digital cultural scene. A new online collaboration between The Photographers’ Gallery , UK and Fotomuseum Winterthur , Switzerland.
