Screen Walk with Anna Ridler
About this film
Anna Ridler shared her project Final Edition, an ongoing attempt to map the final edition of every local newspaper across the USA that have closed since 2004, coinciding with the launch of Facebook and the popularity rise of other social media platforms. Through sharing the difficulties that the artist is facing to accomplish the project, this Screen Walk reflected on the loss of local collective memory, the ongoing revenue challenges for the press, the political impact of social media, and the exploitation of existing visual and written content as raw data to train AI models. Screen Walks is a series of live-streamed artist/researcher-led explorations of online spaces and artistic strategies designed to illuminate a thriving – often overlooked – digital cultural scene. An online collaboration between The Photographers’ Gallery and Fotomuseum Winterthur , Switzerland.
