About this film
LibriVox recording of The Return of the Exiles and the West African Church by Edward Wilmot Blyden. Read in English by Faith Abiola-Ellison. A lecture delivered at the Breadfruit school house, Lagos, West Africa, January 2, 1891 E.W. Blyden (1832 to 1912) was born in the Caribbean and lived in Liberia and Sierra Leone, where he died. He was an educator (school principal and lecturer, writer (author & news-paper editor), diplomat, politician (who held government cabinet positions). Blyden’s 1891 lecture builds on the earlier “back to Africa” thinking of American Martin Delaney (1812 to 1885). Blyden himself is believed to have inspired activists such as Jamaica’s Marcus Garvey and Trinidad’s George Padmore. - Summary by Faith Abíọ́lá-Ellison For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.
