Notes Before World War I, Danish-American opera singer Poul Laurits Bjørnskjold (b. July 31, 1882 Copenhagen, Denmark – d. March 31, 1942 Portland, Oregon, USA) sang operatic tenor roles in Copenhagen and Berlin. In August 1917, he emigrated to the United States. Between 1918 and 1923, he released scores of records with Columbia and Victor. He first lived in Chicago, then in Los Angeles, but by 1926, he was working as a voice teacher in Portland, Oregon.
