AudioLe Barbier de Seville: Air de Figaro
About this film
The Cylinder Archive [ www.cylinder.de ] intermediate archival release: Gabriel-Valentin Soulacroix was a prolific baritone at the French comic opera. This molded brown wax cylinder likely dates from 1902-03, made at a transition time while the Pathé company was switching to the black wax compositions. This recording features a highly compressed version of the famous piece of Il barbiere di Siviglia composed by Gioachino Rossini. It was owed to the limited recording time of a maximum of 2:15 minutes at the almost-standard playback speed of 160rpm. The announcement goes: "Le barbier de Seville, air de figaro. Chanté par monsieur Soulacroix de l'opera comique." This particular record was badly warped and required special electric playback equipment to be played back, which is thanks to the Passive High-Rise PHR cylinder player , which is still in development for further improvements.
