About this film

This spirited recording by Caruso has been a delight to listeners for over 80 years. Over there, was the American call to arms and was sung in the largest cities to the tinniest hamlets throughout the country. The Yankee Doodle Dandy himself, George M. Cohan, wrote it. Caruso, who knew Cohan, loved the song. He recorded the song at the Victor studios in Camden, New Jersey in the summer of 1918. Caruso sang this song at Liberty Bond Rallies around the Country, and even at the Metropolitan Opera House! The recording has become famous for Caruso's energetic singing of the English, and his far more polished French in the second verse.
