About this film
LibriVox volunteers bring you 11 recordings of On Hearing the Messiah performed in Gloucester Cathedral, Sept. 18, 1835 by William Lisle Bowles. Bowles came from a line of Church of England clergymen. His great-grandfather Matthew Bowles, grandfather Dr Thomas Bowles and father William Thomas Bowles had all been parish priests.
