About this film

OMG! It's a beeper! In the days before 24 hour sports news TV (& cell phone sports apps) existed, there was the innovative, ahead of its' time, NewSport Channel. On the air from Oct. 1, 1993 until July 9, 1997, NewSport became the second (USA) 24 hour national sports news channel, filling the niche that was vacated by Sports News Network (SNN), in 1990. Along with sports news, & a lively talk show hosted by Chet Coppock, NewSport introduced a prominent innovative feature in 1995, the “NewSport Score Box”, a “ticker” that updated scores & game starts in real-time. For a portion of 4 years, the Rainbow Programming Holdings endeavor had, at its’ peak, up to 10 million cable, DirecTV satellite, & over the air TV viewers enjoying the latest sports news & talk at all hours of the day. That is, until ESPNews hit the air Nov. 1, 1996, with their "Bottom Line" sports score ticker.
