Bruno Bifkin has just enjoyed an evening of intense pleasure with the thief Ruby Soho who is on the run after stealing a million-dollar inheritance from ex-stripper Delores Cannata. Soho slips out of Bifkin’s house while he is asleep, lifting his wallet before she leaves. The next morning, while hung over, Bruno struggles to make breakfast and suddenly is brutally attacked by an unknown assailant. After Bruno subdues him the attacker insists that the word was out on the street that Ruby left the million dollars with Bruno and that if anyone grabbed Bruno they could get their hands on the money. Finding out she took his wallet the race is on with Bruno being chased and attacked by a variety of characters while he tries to find Ruby Soho in order to get his wallet back. The title Maximum Credibility refers to the idea that no one believes Bruno when he tries to tell them he does not have the million dollars and all he wants is his wallet back.
