Notes The Manhattan Quartett was a very popular close harmony vocal ensemble that recorded German folk songs for Columbia and Victor. In 1921, it consisted of Henry Weimann (tenor), Arthur Hall (tenor; born Adolph Joseph Hohl), Nick Latterner (baritone), and Frank Schwarzkopf (bass). A popular medley of military march songs that combines a slightly abbreviated version of "Der gute Kamerad" (a.k.a. "Ich hatt' einen Kameraden" ) with text by Ludwig Uhland (1809) and music by Friedrich Silcher (1827, after an older Swabian folksong) with an unrelated, nonsensical refrain first added in 1898 by Berlin comic singer Wilhelm Lindemann: Lindemann's refrain runs: Gloria, Gloria, Gloria Viktoria, Ja, mit Herz und Hand fürs Vaterland.
