Sanderson, Joel - Interrelationships #03 1991, rework 2021
About this film
This is a remastered version of the video, created in 2021 featuring an attempt to again improve both the video and audio quality of the original piece. Since the original video was shot in 1991 on VHS tape, this rework uses video AI software to restore the videos image. In the early 1990s Lawrence, Kansas based video artist Joel Sanderson shot a series of static framed video pieces that he called "Video Meditations". An offshoot series of pieces was created called "Interrelationships,” which were experiments with in-camera editing. The subjects were based on unusual locations, with one image leading to the next until the subject formed a circular conclusion. The music track is an improvisation by guitarist/song writer Mick Watts from 1987, which appeared on Demolition Kitchen’s music cassette #3 (Music for the Soviet Mind). The track came about because I purchased a broken Roland Space Echo, once it was repaired Mick came over for one of several recording sessions. I hooked up the Space Echo and Mick just started jamming, it sounded great, this is the only take. After the session Mick offered to buy the Space Echo from me.
