About this film
LibriVox recording of The Honey-Moon by John Tobin. Read in English by LibriVox Volunteers This Restoration-era romantic comedy was written by playwright John Tobin -- who had the great bad luck to have died on the very eve of becoming famous. All of the plays that would eventually make his name as a dramatist were rejected by the managers of the major theatres of London. Ill with consumption, Tobin heard that his last play, “The Honeymoon” had been accepted by the manager of Drury Lane. Unfortunately, the playwright expired before the production reached the stage. This script, heavily influenced by popular fairy tales and Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” was popular with theater-goers throughout the 19th century. - Summary by Kelly Taylor For further information, including links to online text, reader information, RSS feeds, CD cover or other formats (if available), please go to the LibriVox catalog page for this recording.
