Indiana Farmland: Fight or Flight?
About this film
Indiana Land Resource Council Indiana Farmland: Fight or Flight? Indiana's heritage is deeply rooted in agriculture, and the state ranks second to Illinois in the percentage of land considered prime farmland. However, urban sprawl is fragmenting farmland at an alarming rate. Every hour of every day, 10 acres of farmland are converted to other uses. In the last decade, more than a million acres of Indiana farmland have gone out of production. The goals of this DVD are to raise awareness of the issue, to explore the value of preserving farmland, and to present farmland protection program options. Activities include a worksheet students complete while watching the video and an assignment where students work alone and in small groups to decide where a company should build a new factory. This curriculum meets Indiana Academic Standards for U.S. government.
