Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Katrina's Classroom Financial Lessons From a Hurricane Lesson 2: In the Aftermath Students learn the importance of keeping important documents and records in a safe place and the benefits of keeping money in a bank. Through demonstrations and activities, they learn how to open an account and make a deposit. At the end of the lesson, students will be able to • Identify types of documents that are important and create a plan for saving them. • Describe benefits of having a bank account. • Apply skills necessary to have a bank account, including making a deposit, writing a check, balancing a checkbook, and reconciling a bank statement.
