About this film

Federal Highway Administration Video VH-609 Barrier Delineation in Work Zones: The Well Defined Path Concrete barriers can be used effectively to protect work zones, separate directions of travel, and channelize traffic, however they can be difficult to see, easily blending into surroundings, particularly in low visibility conditions and at night. The visibility of these barriers can be enhanced when used in conjunction with other devices such as pavement markings, tubes, cones, vertical panels, drums, barricades, warning lights, and reflective panels. This video describes and recommends delineation practices to be used with concrete barriers, based on standards set by the MUTCD for both day-time and night-time use. The video depicts best practices for barrier placement with channelizing devices and road markings, delineation techniques, end treatments, selection of delineation devices for urban and rural applications, as well as maintenance and replacement considerations.
