Washington State Department of Transportation Video VH-393A Fit to be Tied: Retrofitting PCC Pavement with Dowel Bars This video demonstrates dowel-bar retrofit and pavement grinding to provide load transfer and eliminate faults between pavement slabs. Criteria are given for bar type, spacing, position, and allowance for concrete expansion and contraction. Dowel installation is shown in some detail. The Washington project is the first large-scale retrofit project and preliminary results indicate success and life cycle cost effectiveness.
