Department of Transportation Video VH-377 ALERT: Advanced Law Enforcement Technology, Public Safety Technology for the 21st Century The ALERT system integrates a wireless, computerized data entry and access system for first-response traffic officers with a data management system for traffic records managers and administrators. Officers are tracked by global positioning and equipped with an in- vehicle touch-screen, a hand-held remote, digital photo and video capability, and direct access to federal, state, and local records. All data is entered electronically at the scene into pre-programmed forms, eliminating the need for transcription, and it is automatically transmitted to state and local record centers. Estimated on-scene time savings are 20-50 percent.
