Modern Roundabouts
About this film
Maryland Department of Transportation Video VH-374 Modern Roundabouts This video is designed to introduce local agencies to the concept of modern roundabouts, with examples of installations in the U.S. and abroad. The characteristics of modern roundabouts are described: small dimensions, controlled access, low speed, and wide entries. The case is made that properly designed modern roundabouts can result in accident reduction and traffic capacity increase at lower cost than signalized intersections. Impacts on bicycle and pedestrian traffic are also discussed. Roundabouts are presented not as a panacea, but as an effective option for intersection control.
