Retrofitted Load Transfer Devices
About this film
Indiana Department of Transportation Video VH-283 Retrofitted Load Transfer Devices Repair of cracks in jointed concrete pavement is accomplished by dry-milling slots and placing epoxy-coated rebar to establish load transfer across pavement cracks. Carbide grinding is used instead of diamond saw cutting. After the short sections of rebar are placed, the slots are backfilled with a high- strength rapid-setting mortar. This technique is intended to prevent pavement faulting, restrain future lateral movement, and transfer pavement expansion and contraction to the pavement joints. It is being field tested in Indiana.
