Washington State Department of Transportation Video VH-161 Surface Placement This video demonstrates the inspection procedures, personnel, equipment and paperwork requirements in Washington State for construction of an aggregate base course. The tape first covers the inspector's responsibilities before base course construction begins: organization and management of the inspection process, inspection and acceptance of materials, project layout, surveying, contractor's equipment, subgrade slope and condition, and traffic control. Methods used for placing gravel base, ballast and crushed surfacing are described, and the inspector's responsibilities are spelled out for each stage of construction. Finally, the inspector's post-production responsibilities are described.
