About this film
The Cylinder Archive [ www.cylinder.de ] release for April 2012: Due to crazy import duties for phonograph cylinders imposed in Austria, only a small number of cylinders were generally available. This legislative was intended to privilege national manufacturers of records. The actual result was, that other makers would make unauthorized copies of larger brands such as Edison an sell these to the Austrian market at higher prices than original Edison cylinders would have cost without the imposed import taxes. Globalization was not granted for individuals, and in the end it was the consumer who paid more for lower quality products. This cylinder is one of the few original Vienna recordings on Edison two-minute cylinder and was recorded in November 1907. The word "Drahrer" is an Austrian term that means "reveler" or "night owl".
