The Cylinder Archive [ www.cylinder.de ] release for December 2014: Stille Nacht (Silent Night) has been certainly the no. 1 Christmas carol for more than a century. The Edison Company did record a great variety of different takes and arrangements. This version was done in 1906/07 and appeared in the 1907 Edison catalog, performed by the Nebe-Quartett, named after its leader Carl Nebe, who also does the announcement on this cylinder. His distinctively wrong pronunciation of the name Edison is clearly audible. This quartet arrangement is one of the most beautiful arrangements to find on cylinder.
