About this film
The Cylinder Archive [ www.cylinder.de ] release for June 2010: Bicycle-Couplet, a German comic song by Hugo Gottschall, recorded in February 1902. This particular recording does not only represent the earlier German series of the Edison 2-minute cylinders, it was also recorded in the New York City studios. An additional proof beside the references are the lyrics of this song. The distinctive use of English terms along with an all-German song is anything but common. One can clearly hear that Hugo Gottschall was referring to the east coast community of German immigrants. A recording made in Germany would not have used the terms "bicycle" and "grocery clerk". Record transferred by the use of the Passive High-Rise playback system.
