About this film

Belshazzar is an English Oratorio by Georg Friedrich Händel to a libretto by Charles Jennens. It was first performed at the King's Theatre in the Haymarket in London in 1745. The story is taken from the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament and tells the tale of Belshazzar's Feast and "the writing on the wall" which only Daniel can interpret and which foretells the downfall of Belshazzar.
