A test render on the opening scene and song number from the "love it or hate it" direct-to-video sequel (or midquel) to the 1986 Spielberg/Bluth classic, An American Tail: The Treasure of Manhattan Island , remastered in 1080p using a variety of post production tools for enhancing the picture resolution. The clip was first scripted in AviSynth+ with a TIVTC filter to retain progressive frames from an interlaced telecine field. It mostly worked well for an animation transferred on telecined sources, but it sadly does retain an occasional interlaced frame every few seconds. But even with a few hiccups in the result, I moved forward to exporting the filtered clip on VirtualDub2, loaded up for upscaling on Topaz Labs' popular Video Enhance AI tool using the Proteus model, and rendered the final edit with the audio on DaVinci Resolve; where I also used its Super Scale filter on the clip to enhance the details a bit further. While the results may vary a bit from being the best remaster, this was one example of how an otherwise forgettable animated sequel (where it handles mature themes like racism and brutality) can be preserved for today's high quality resolutions in a way that does hon…
