[Description from the original press release] The ethereal majesty of the sandhill crane on its annual spring migration along central Nebraska's Platte River Valley awes and excites the naturalist in people. Miles to the east, soaring at the entrance to Omaha's Eppley Airfield terminal, John Raimondi's monumental bronze sculpture. "Dance of the Cranes," depicts two sandhill cranes in a graceful ritual dance. The spirit of freedom and flight that Raimondo's sculpture evokes is explored in a special hour-long Nebraska ETV Network Cultural Affairs Unit special. The program follows the sculpture's two-year process of evolution—from conceptualization to drawings, cut-outs, models, construction and the final installation of the 60—foot—tall piece. The massive sculpture, which is the largest free-standing bronze in North America, was commissioned for Eppley Airfield for $460,000 the Omaha Airport Authority.
