Sheldon: A Home for Art
About this film
[Description from the original press release] This special program focuses on UNL's Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery—dedicated in 1963—and the role it plays as a liaison between the public and the artist. The 30-minute production examines the art gallery's collection of works by living and past artists, the preservation and restoration of these works, research and interpretation, and finally, presentation. The Gallery's holdings of early 20th-century artworks are particularly prominent, including those of Robert Henri, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Arthur Dove. The force of the realist tradition in American art is also well represented in Sheldon's collections by such diverse artists as Thomas Eakins, Thomas Hart Benton, Edward Hopper, Wayne Thiebaud, and Philip Pearlstein. Sheldon / A Home for Art is a production of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Television cultural affairs unit, with Gene Bunge as senior producer and Bill Ganzel as producer/director. Ralph Hammack and John Beck were videographers for the program.
