About this film

[Description from the original press release] "Coping With Change" or "A Piece of the Heart", will deal with the human cost of the farm crisis. It will provide perspective on the process by which some Nebraska farm families have emotionally dealt with the personal changes caused by the farm crisis. It will define (in the words of people who have been a part of the crisis) what the human costs are, what people who are experiencing the crisis feel and the steps they go through to deal with those feelings. The program also will provide some strategies that can help farm families begin to deal with personal crisis. It will also describe the workings of farmer support groups and the value of sharing one's experience with others as a means of dealing with change. The participants are Deb Rood; a former dairy farmer now working with Managing for Tomorrow; Delano Cunningham, a Methodist minister, who has been instrumental in starting farmer support groups in Central Nebraska; Kathleen Severens and Judy Dye of the Farm Crisis Hotline; David Hahn, a Lincoln attorney who has extensive experience working with farm and ranch families; and three Nebraska farm families that have faced the crisis…
