About this film

"REMAKING CITIES features issues raised by the International Remaking Cities Conference (held in Pittsburgh March 2-5), expert opinion on the future of the Mon Valley, and the complete closing conference remarks by HRH Prince of Wales. "Pittsburgh was chosen as the site of this conference because it is a city that has successfully recovered from the collapse of a major industry. David Lewis, Pittsburgh architect and chairman of the conference, is known for his visionary and multidisciplinary approach to urban design, gathered bankers, economists, architects, and other experts for the conference to develop recommendation for public policy. "Prince Charles has taken a particular interest in the issue of urban development, and surprised many with his outspoken remarks about 'London's wrecked skyline.' REMAKING CITIES is the only local broadcast of his remarks in their entirety. "Other experts featured in REMAKING CITIES include architectural historian Franklin Toker; late Pittsburgh Mayor Richard Caliguiri; representatives from the American Institute of Architects and several community-based urban redevelopment projects; and George DeBolt, a Homestead businessman."--1988 Peabody Award…
