A keynote speech by Dr. Norman Francis on October 4, 2016, at the LSU Presidential Symposium entitled "Movement or Moment: A National Dialogue on Identity, Empowerment and Justice for All." Dr. Francis is the president emeritus of Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. He discusses: growing up during segregation; his career at Xavier University; "Plessy vs. Ferguson" as the deconstruction of Reconstruction; education as the road out of poverty; the career of civil rights lawyer A.P. Tureaud, Sr.; and the need for equity in society. Dr. Francis also answers questions from the audience.
