Richard Rhodes (2010-11-06)
About this film
On this episode of Report from Santa Fe, we interview Richard Rhodes who received the Pulitzer Prize for his book “The Making of the Atomic Bomb.” He is visiting Santa Fe to address the Santa Fe Council on International Relations. He learned all the science necessary to write his book knowledgeably which did not involve as much math as other sciences. Since nuclear science is an experimental science, one can read the papers and follow the physical operation of the apparatus scientists were manipulating. In another one of his books, “Arsenals of Folly,” he focused on the end of the Cold War during the Summit meeting between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachov in Reykjavik, Iceland in which they came within an inch of agreeing to begin the process of eliminating nuclear weapons. Guest: Richard Rhodes (Author). Hostess: Lorene Mills.
