Here and Now, Virtual Schools, An appeals court in Waukesha ruled that the home based, online schooling offered by the Northern Ozaukee School District at the Wisconsin Virtual Academy broke several state laws. The court ordered the state to stop paying for students to be enrolled in the Wisconsin Virtual Academy because most of its students are from outside the Northern Ozaukee District. Last year, that district received more than $3.5 million in open enrollment funding to run the online school. This ruling could cut short 11 other virtual schools across Wisconsin, not to mention leaving some 850 Wisconsin virtual academy students up in the air.
