About this film

This week on INSIDE--a roundtable discussion led by Gary Gibson and Leila Gorbman about our American soldiers. We're seeing them daily on TV; we read their stories in our newspapers. But how much do we really know about our service men and women fighting the war in the Persian Gulf? Who signs up to become a soldier? How good are they? What if they change their mind? And what if we run out of volunteers: will the draft come back?Right now, we have over five hundred thousand troops deployed in the middle East. That's as many soldiers as we had fighting in Vietnam at the height of that war. Joining INSIDE to talk about our soldiers are Retired Lt. General Ten Jenes; Ann Gilliam, a African-American Professor of political Economy at Evergreen State college; Randolph Hennes, who teaches military history at the University of Washington and Reverand Donovan Cook from the University Baptist Church, which has recently decided to offer sanctuary to soldiers who say they are conscientious objectors.
