Interview with John Lewis conducted in 1985 for Eyes on the Prize. Discussion centers on the the voting rights movement in Selma, Alabama, "Freedom Day", his friendship with Martin Luther King, Jr., the relationship between SCLC and SNCC, his view on the philosophy of nonviolence, and his involvement in the March on Washington. Lewis discusses the first meetings between civil rights leaders and President John F. Kennedy, in which A. Philip Randolph announced they planned a nonviolent march on Washington. Lewis goes on to describe ensuing meetings within the community that would bring the march to reality on August 28, 1963.
