The Crime of Silence: Sexually Abused Children - Lucy Berliner
About this film
Lucy Berliner, Supervisor of Child Research Projects, Harborview Hospital's Sexual Assault Center, Seattle, explores with host Al Page the painful subject of child abuse. The "system" has failed many children and it continues to "treat the symptom and ignore the cause." Berliner offers suggestions for changing the system. "The real problem [with child prostitution] is the market. There are people who live off these kids." Berliner discusses those "kids," the streets on which they live and the criminal justice system with which so many of these children become involved. Originally broadcast on UWTV as a segment of Upon reflection.
