National Archives description "Synthetic Oil Plant. MS Looking at NW side of a large Naptha tank located S-SW of the First Vacuum Distillation Plant, showing a method of using three rows of sand filled 55 gallon metal drums and earth fill as a method of riveting large storage tanks. MCU Of the method of using 55 gallon drums for earth containers in building a revetment. The four drums extending above the reveted surface do not contain earth since they provide easy access to the tank valves which are located at the bottom of the cylindrical pipe which is formed by placing a series of drums one on top of another. This shut-off bar can be seen protruding from one of the drums. LS Vacuum Distillation Plant showing bomb damage inflicted by 500 lb GP bomb fused .1 nose .025 tail delay. MLS Showing the base of refractionation column which was seriously damaged by fire which apparently resulted from fragmentation of the bomb whose crater is shown in the foreground.
